Originaire de Tibériade, il gagna une réputation d'érudition et de piété, séjourna à Alger et s'établit à Tunis (1750). Ami intime d'Abraham Cohen Baberrebi, l'un des plus anciens rabbins de Tunis. Auteur d'un commentaire sur les deux premiers ordres de la Mishna, imprimé à Livourne en 1843 par le petit-fils de son ami.
