Born in 1935 in Jalabe (northwest of Sanaa), he emigrated to Israel at age 18. Considered among the greatest Yemenite singers in Israel, he devoted his last years to documenting and transcribing the songs of Yemenite women (wedding songs, birth songs, grinding songs, laments) collected from his mother and sisters, a work of cultural heritage preservation.
