Psychanalyste juif hongrois né à Kisvárda le 8 janvier 1890, mort à New York le 14 mai 1972. Rencontra Freud en 1915, fut analysé par Karl Abraham à Berlin, émigra aux États-Unis dans les années 1930 et fonda le centre de formation psychanalytique de l'Université Columbia (1944). Il forgea le terme « schizotype » (1956).
