Il rédigea des commentaires, sermons et responsa (surtout sur des questions médicales) restés à l'état de manuscrit, et collabora à la revue Kerem Ḥemed. Il entretint une correspondance avec Samuel David Luzzatto. Grand bibliophile, il rassembla une importante bibliothèque hébraïque dont 131 manuscrits passèrent ensuite à Marco Mortara.
