Polish mathematician of Jewish origin, born and died in Warsaw (killed by a German bomb in September 1939). His work focused mainly on algebra and the history of mathematics; his bibliography contains over 200 titles. He founded the journal Wiadomości Matematyczne and co-launched a series of Polish mathematics textbooks in 1884. He was also a cofounder of the assimilationist Jewish party Zjednoczenie.
