Samuel B. Ḥiyya

Palestinian amora of the second half of the third century of the common era, of whom no halakhic or aggadic maxim has been preserved: he is known only through the remarks of others that he reports, cited twice in the Babylonian Talmud. He is probably identical to Samuel b. Ḥiyya b. Juda, often mentioned in the Jerusalem Talmud as reporting the teachings of R. Ḥanina b. Ḥama.

Amoraïm palestinien de la seconde moitié du troisième siècle de l'ère commune. Aucune de ses maximes halakiques ou aggadiques n'a été conservée ; il n'est connu que par ses citations des énoncés d'autrui. Il est mentionné deux fois dans le Talmud de Babylone : dans Ḥul. 56b, où il transmet un apophthegme de R. Mani, et dans B. M. 72b, où il cite une opinion de R. Eleazar. Il est apparemment identique à Samuel b. Ḥiyya b. Judah, qui est fréquemment mentionné dans le Talmud palestinien comme citant les maximes de R. Ḥanina b. Ḥama. De plus, dans Gen. R. xlviii. 6, Samuel b. Ḥiyya est nommé comme l'autorité pour le même énoncé de R. Ḥanina b. Ḥama que celui cité au nom de Samuel b. Ḥiyya b. Judah dans Pesiḳ. R. 15 (ed. Friedmann, p. 72a).
