Né à Monte San Savino (Toscane). Formé aux études juives à Sienne et lecteur assidu de poésie italienne, il correspondit avec Metastasio, Cesarotti, Monti et Alfieri. Enseignant d'italien dans la communauté juive de Livourne (1801–1808). Sa poésie, de tradition littéraire italienne, est empreinte de références bibliques et d'une religiosité puisée aux sources juives.
