Né et élevé à Bagdad, Salomon Twena s'installe à Calcutta en 1880 où il fonde une imprimerie hébraïque qui édita plus de 70 livres, en grande partie ses propres œuvres, ainsi que des hebdomadaires judéo-arabes (Maggid Meisharim, 1889-1900 ; Shoshannah, 1901). Kohen, il conçut une marque d'imprimeur figurant les mains levées de la bénédiction sacerdotale. Il traduisit aussi de la fiction en judéo-arabe bagdadi.
