Born Bezalel Daiches in Vilna, son of Rabbi Israel Hayyim Daiches. Trained at the Berlin Rabbinical Seminary, doctor of philosophy from the University of Leipzig (thesis on David Hume). Rabbi of the Hebrew congregation of Edinburgh from 1919 until his death in 1945, a leading figure in the Scottish Jewish community.
