After the plague of 1743 which decimated the rabbis of Baghdad, the community appealed to Aleppo, from which Rabbi Sadqa Bekhor Hussein was sent as Chief Rabbi. Recognized halakhic authority as far as Persia, Kurdistan and the Baghdad comptoirs of India, he is the author of the responsa collection Sedaqah u-Mishpat.
