Né Shloyme Zanvl Rappoport en 1863 à Chashniki (gouvernorat de Vitebsk), mort en 1920. Auteur yiddish/russe, il dirige l'Expédition ethnographique juive dans la Zone de résidence (1912–1914), collectant des milliers de photos, contes, chants et objets. Il est surtout connu pour sa pièce Le Dibbouk et pour Di Shvue, hymne du Bund. Ses œuvres complètes comptent quinze volumes.
