Born Shloyme Zanvl Rappoport in 1863 in Chashniki (Vitebsk governorate), died in 1920. Yiddish/Russian author, he directed the Jewish Ethnographic Expedition in the Pale of Settlement (1912–1914), collecting thousands of photographs, tales, songs and objects. He is best known for his play The Dybbuk and for Di Shvue, the Bund anthem. His complete works comprise fifteen volumes.
