Born Roland Isaac Bacri in Algiers (Bab El Oued) in a Jewish family of Algeria. Columnist at Le Canard enchaîné from 1956 to 1999, he signed under the pseudonym « Roro de Bab-el-Oued » texts in pataouète (the Judeo-Algerian pied-noir dialect). His brother Jean-Claude (Jean Claudric) was a conductor and composer for Enrico Macias.
