Born in Vienna in 1919, sound engineer (RCA Victor, Columbia) then cameraman for CBS in New York; he emigrated to the United States in the early Second World War to flee Nazi persecution, which cost the lives of his parents. Grandson of the (Jewish) composer Ignaz Brüll, friend of Brahms. He is known for his thousands of candid photographs of Toscanini and for his series on Michelangelo's Pietà.
