Born in 1939, fighter pilot of the Israeli Air Force, captured during the War of Attrition and held three and a half years in an Egyptian prison. With three fellow detainees, he directs there the Hebrew translation of Tolkien's Hobbit (« the pilots' translation »), published in 1977 by Zmora Bitan and long held to be one of the best. After his release, he commanded Ramat David air base.
