Born in 1885 in Hara Sghira (Djerba), son of Rabbi Avraham Boukris, he studied under Rabbi David Cohen Gdisha alongside Rabbi Haïm Houri. From 1915 he served as judge and decisioner in the Hara Sghira quarter; in 1921 he became president of the rabbinical court and rabbi of Zarzis (southern Tunisia), after the emigration of his predecessor Rabbi Shalom Cohen. A street and a synagogue bearing his name are found in Yavné (Israel).
