Fils de Rabbi Yaakov Cohen enterré à Taznakht, il servit comme dayan et cosigna des décisions avec les rabbins de Mogador (Essaouira), qui le décrivaient comme « le sage parfait, pieux et retiré, versé dans les miracles, dont la prière ne revenait jamais vide ». La tradition rattache l'un de ses saints ancêtres aux hassidim réunis autour du kabbaliste Shalom Sharabi pour hâter la venue du Messie. Il est décédé et enterré à Ouarzazate.
