Chef (manhig) de la communauté juive d'Oufran et dernier des cinquante martyrs brûlés vifs pour avoir refusé de se convertir à l'islam, épisode connu sous le nom de « brûlés d'Oufran ». Selon les sources l'événement se situe vers 1775, 1790 ou 1792 (le Dr Issachar Ben-Ami donne l'an 5552 / 1792). Il encouragea ses fidèles à mourir pour la sanctification du Nom ; venu son tour, il arracha son anneau d'or pour acheter une cruche d'eau, se purifia les mains, récita le Chema et se jeta dans le feu. Les cinquante martyrs appartenaient aux familles Afriat, Knafo, Chriki, Sebbag et Amselem.
