Selon Rabbi Yossef ben-Naïm citant l'hypothèse du chercheur Rabbi Yaakov Toledano (dans son livre « Apiryon »), il fut l'un des grands d'Espagne établi à Safi. On lui doit un commentaire manuscrit ancien sur le Rachi de la Torah, dont le colophon indique : « achevé le lundi 18 Kislev de l'an 5228 (1472) à Asfi, par la main du modeste Yehouda ben-Habib ». On ignore s'il en fut l'auteur ou seulement le copiste.
