Compté parmi les grands rabbins de Tunisie, fils de Rabbi David Dana. Il fonda et dirigea la yeshiva « Ḥevrat ha-Talmud » à Tunis, en réaction au recul de l'enseignement traditionnel face à l'expansion culturelle française. Ses nouveautés talmudiques furent publiées à titre posthume par son élève.
