Né à Midelt en Tevet 5660 (1900), le mois même du décès de Rabbi Yaakov Abouhatsira, de parents charitables (Rabbi Moshé et Hanna), dont la maison était un lieu de rencontre pour les sages. Élève du melamed Rabbi Avraham Attia, il étudia surtout auprès des fils de Rabbi Yaakov Abouhatsira, en particulier Rabbi Massoud (père du Baba Sali et du Baba Haki), et apprit la Kabbale de Rabbi Yitzhak Abouhatsira. Ordonné au rabbinat à dix-neuf ans par Rabbi Massoud Abouhatsira, il épousa Esther et se consacra jour et nuit à l'étude, laissant des gloses kabbalistiques manuscrites, notamment sur les « Otzrot Haïm ». Sa hilloula est célébrée le 25 Iyar.
