Fils de Rabbi Makhlouf Knafo. Nourrisson circoncis pendant les événements d'Oufran, il fut sauvé du bûcher : sa mère le lia sur son dos, s'échappa de la fenêtre à l'aide de draps et parvint après trois mois d'errance à Mogador (Essaouira), le visage et les mains noircis par le soleil. Il est l'ancêtre par lequel la famille Knafo se rattache aux « brûlés d'Oufran ».
