Born in Turin in a wealthy Italian Jewish family (father Angelo Sraffa, mother Irma Tivoli; ancestors merchants in Pisa for several generations). Invited by Keynes, he settled in Cambridge in 1927. His work Production of Commodities by Means of Commodities (1960) founded the neo-Ricardian school; he also edited the Works and Correspondence of David Ricardo.
