Ottolenghi, Leonetto

Italian philanthropist, born in Asti on November 3, 1829, died in Pisa on February 20, 1904. He rebuilds in 1889 the synagogue of Asti, organizes an exhibition of which he is president then promotes a second one in 1898; King Humbert I, who visits both exhibitions, confers on him on March 14, 1899 the hereditary title of count. In 1903, he offers Asti a statue of Humbert I and founds the Alfieri collection at the Palazzo Alfieri.

Philanthrope italien ; né à Asti le 3 novembre 1829 ; mort à Pise le 20 février 1904. En 1889, il reconstruisit la synagogue juive d'Asti, et deux ans plus tard organisa l'exposition qui s'y tint, dont il était président. En 1898, il promut une deuxième exposition. Le roi Humbert I<sup>er</sup> visita les deux expositions, et le 14 mars 1899, conféra à Ottolenghi le titre héréditaire de comte. En 1903, Ottolenghi présenta une statue d'Humbert I<sup>er</sup> à Asti, et fonda une collection Alfieri dans le Palazzo Alfieri.
