Ottolenghi, Lazzaro

Italian rabbi, born in Acqui in 1820, died in Rome in 1890. He successively held the rabbinates of Turin, Moncalvo and then, from 1858, Acqui, before spending his last years in Rome. Renowned preacher and author of Hebrew poems, he also wrote plays such as « Matrimonio Misto » and, in his youth, the tragedy « Etelwige », performed in Acqui in 1852.

Rabbin italien ; né à Acqui en 1820 ; mort à Rome en 1890. Il occupa successivement les rabbinats de Turin, Moncalvo, et (1858) Acqui. Les dernières années de sa vie se passèrent à Rome. Ottolenghi était un prédicateur de quelque renom, et écrivit un certain nombre de poèmes hébreux. Parmi ses écrits figurent : « Matrimonio Misto », une comédie ; « Dialoghi Religioso-Morali » ; et « ḲolḲore », destiné à l'étude de la littérature hébraïque. Dans sa jeunesse il écrivit plusieurs tragédies, dont l'une, « Etelwige », fut représentée à Acqui en 1852.
