Born in Florence in 1925, arrested in 1944 and deported to Auschwitz with 11 members of his family, of whom he was the sole survivor; liberated at Buchenwald. He became one of the principal Italian witnesses to the Shoah and recorded his family memory in the book « A 5405, il coraggio di vivere » (2003), named after his Auschwitz prisoner number.
