Iraqi Jew born under the name Naeim Khalaschi (in Hillah), from a family whose patronym "Khalaschi" ("refiners/purifiers" of gold) was given under the Ottomans. He emigrated to Israel and then to the United States and published an article "The Jews of Iraq" (1998) and an autobiographical and polemical book, "Ben-Gurion's Scandals".
