Juif irakien né sous le nom de Naeim Khalaschi (à Hillah), d'une famille dont le patronyme « Khalaschi » (« affineurs/purificateurs » de l'or) fut donné sous les Ottomans. Il émigra en Israël puis aux États-Unis et publia un article « The Jews of Iraq » (1998) et un livre autobiographique et polémique, « Ben-Gurion's Scandals ».
