Murányi, Armin

Hungarian lawyer and journalist, born in Asszonyfa (county of Győr) on May 8, 1841, died in Budapest on April 30, 1902. After studying medicine then law, graduated from Budapest in 1866, he obtained special royal authorization to open a law practice in Győr in 1867, where he became highly reputed, before settling in Budapest in 1880 to devote himself to journalism: he founded the weekly "Magyar Háziasszony" and the daily "Nemzeti Ujság", and directed from 1887 to 1899 the "Képes Családi Lap".

Avocat et journaliste hongrois ; né à Asszonyfa (comté de Raab), 8 mai 1841 ; mort à Budapest 30 avril 1902. Après avoir étudié la médecine pendant trois ans à Vienne, il se tourna vers le droit et reçut son diplôme à Budapest en 1866. Comme les Juifs n'étaient pas autorisés à exercer le droit en Hongrie à cette époque, Murányi fut obligé d'obtenir une permission spéciale du roi pour ouvrir (en 1867) un cabinet d'avocat à Györ (Raab). Il devint bientôt l'avocat le plus populaire de la Transylvanie. En 1880, il se rendit à Budapest, où il se consacra à la littérature.

Murányi fut le fondateur et, sous le pseudonyme d'« Andrea », l'éditeur de l'hebdomadaire « Magyar Háziasszony » (= « La Maîtresse de maison hongroise »). Il fonda aussi le journal quotidien « Nemzeti Ujság » (= « Journal national »), et édita le « Kápes Családi Lap » (= « Feuille de famille illustrée ») de 1887 à 1899. En qualité de membre du comité de la Ḥebra Ḳaddisha et de la commission municipale de l'école à Budapest, Murányi rendit de grands services à la philanthropie et à l'éducation. Son nom est aussi lié au développement de Bártfa (Bartfeld), la station thermale.
