Born in Veprik (Russia) and trained as a physician (1913), he settled after the First World War in Italy where he was active in the Zionist movement and published Italian translations of works of Jewish interest (Buber, R. T. Herford, Klausner with Dante Lattes). He moved in 1924 to Petah Tikva and was one of the major voices of the labor movement in the Land of Israel, member of the editorial committee of the daily newspaper Davar; he gave his name to Beilinson Hospital.
