Born Edmund Hans Rosenkranz into a poor peasant Jewish family of Bukovina, he adopted the name Moses at eleven years old in protest against an teacher's antisemitism. German-language poet, he was a translator and ghostwriter for Queen Marie of Romania. Persecuted successively by the Antonescu regime, the Soviet gulag and the Ceaușescu regime, he settled in Germany in 1961. Author of poetry collections and memoirs (Fragment einer Autobiographie).
