Castilian kabbalist, author or compiler of the Zohar (Book of Splendor), the fundamental work of the Kabbalah. Attributed to Rabbi Shimon bar Yohai (2nd c.), the Zohar became the third pillar of Judaism after the Bible and the Talmud.
