L'un des plus grands maîtres de la littérature talmudique médiévale. Il tint la Dispute de Barcelone (20–31 juillet 1263) face à Pablo Christiani devant Jacques Ier d'Aragon, remportant le débat public mais devant ensuite quitter l'Espagne. Il finit ses jours en Terre d'Israël.
