Poète marrane portugais, également médecin et mathématicien. Il débute sa carrière à Madrid comme mathématicien royal puis médecin de la Maison de Castille. Dénoncé à l'Inquisition en 1634, il se réfugie à Naples où paraît son chef-d'œuvre, El Macabeo, épopée baroque en castillan (20 chants) sur les exploits de Judas Maccabée.
