Fils de Rabbi Mordechai de Nadvorna (Mordechai Leifer, qui adopta le nom Rosenbaum), il fut le premier rebbe de la dynastie de Kretshnif, branche de Nadvorna. Il était le seul autorisé par son père à délivrer des amulettes (kameot). Il eut pour fils Eliezer Zev Rosenbaum (assassiné dans la Shoah en 1944) et Issamar de Nadvorna.
