Son of Rabbi Mordechai of Nadvorna (Mordechai Leifer, who adopted the name Rosenbaum), he was the first rebbe of the Kretshnif dynasty, a branch of Nadvorna. He was the only one authorized by his father to distribute amulets (kameot). His sons were Eliezer Zev Rosenbaum (murdered in the Holocaust in 1944) and Issamar of Nadvorna.
