Born in Agadir in 1950, specialist in medieval Jewish philosophy (Maimonides, Averroes) and modern Judeo-German thought (Mendelssohn to Scholem), professor (Strasbourg, Basel, Heidelberg, lecturer in Geneva). Author of nearly fifty works, including about ten "Que sais-je?" volumes; recipient of the Gegner Prize 1995 from the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences for his work on Maimonides.
