Hakham séfarade et shadar, élève des grands rabbins d'Izmir R. Ḥayyim Abulafia et R. Yitzhak ha-Kohen Rappaport, avec qui il émigra à Jérusalem. Nommé grand-rabbin de Tripoli, il dirigea la communauté juive de Libye pendant une vingtaine d'années jusqu'à sa mort en 1768. Auteur du célèbre commentaire Maʽaseh Rokeaḥ sur le Mishneh Torah de Maïmonide.
