Figure of Tunisia's modernist Jewish intelligentsia; he founded the newspaper « La Justice » and led, from 1905 onward, the campaign to extend to Tunisian Jews the rights granted to Algerian Jews. Author of the pamphlet « L'Extension de la juridiction et de la nationalité françaises en Tunisie » (1905).
