Marcel Bénabou, né en 1939 à Meknès, est un écrivain et historien, professeur d'histoire romaine spécialiste de l'Afrique du Nord antique. Membre de l'Oulipo depuis 1969, il en est le « secrétaire définitivement provisoire ». Son œuvre autobiographique et ludique — notamment « Jacob, Ménahem et Mimoun : une épopée familiale » — met en jeu son judaïsme marocain et sa ville de Meknès, transmettant par les lettres une mémoire familiale.
