Born in Lviv in 1877, doctor from the University of Lwów (1904). Rector of the rabbinical seminary "Tachkemoni" (1920-1930), co-founder and then professor (from 1928) of the Institute of Jewish Studies in Warsaw. Historian of the Jews of Poland and Galicia. Director of the Judenrat archives in the Warsaw ghetto, where he died in late 1942 or early 1943.
