Rabbi Judah Loew ben Bezalel, chief rabbi of Prague, original thinker and legendary figure. His philosophical and ethical work anticipates modern themes (human dignity, education). The legend of the Golem, a clay creature he is said to have animated to protect the Jews, made him a universal cultural symbol.
