German Jewish theoretical physicist born in Nuremberg in 1884, he was the assistant, collaborator and coauthor of Albert Einstein in Zurich. Professor at RWTH Aachen from 1921, he was driven from his position in 1933 as "non-Aryan" and suspected communist, and died in exile in Dublin in 1939.
