Löwy, Adolf

German physiologist, born in Berlin on June 29, 1862, trained in his native city where he obtained his doctorate in medicine in 1885. Privatdozent of physiology in 1895 then assistant professor in 1900, he received in 1895 a prize from the Smithsonian Institution of Washington for his research on respiration and circulation with variations in pressure and oxygen content of the air.

Physiologiste allemand ; né à Berlin le 29 juin 1862 ; formé au gymnasium et à l'université de sa ville natale (M.D. 1885), où il devint privatdozent en physiologie à cette dernière en 1895, et professeur adjoint en 1900. Pour sa monographie « Untersuchungen über die Respiration und Circulation bei Aenderung des Druckes und des Sauerstoffgehaltes der Luft », Löwy reçut un prix de la Smithsonian Institution, Washington, en 1895. De nombreuses autres publications de sa part ont paru dans l'« Archiv für die Gesammte Physiologie » de Pflüger, dans l'« Archiv für Anatomie und Physiologie », et dans « Virchow's Archiv ».
