Löw, Samuel

Talmudist, son of Naṭe ha-Lévi, born in Kolín, Bohemia, around 1720 and died on May 20, 1806 in Boskovice, Moravia, where he directed a yeshiva for nearly sixty years. He is the author of Maḥaẓit ha-Sheqel, a vast sub-commentary on the Magen Abraham by Abraham Abele Gombiner, published in Vienna in 1807-8, as well as Hilkot Niddah and Hilkot Meliḥah.

Talmudiste ; fils de Naṭe (![](https://storage.googleapis.com/jewishencyclopedia/chars/V08p193001.jpg) = Nathan) ha-Levi ; né à Kolin, Bohême, vers 1720 ; mort le 20 mai 1806 à Boskowitz, Moravie, où il avait présidé pendant près de soixante ans à une yeshibah. Il écrivit : « Maḥaẓit ha-Sheḳel », un vaste sous-commentaire sur le « Magen Abraham » d'Abraham Abele Gombiner concernant le Shulhan 'Aruk, Oraḥ Ḥayyim (Vienne, 1807-8 ; 2e éd. 1817 ; réimprimé plusieurs fois) ; « Hilkot Niddah » (Lemberg, 1858) ; et « Hilkot Meliḥah » (_ib._ 1860). Son fils Wolf [Boskowitz](/articles/3589-boskowitz) prononça le sermon lors de ses funérailles (« Ma'amar Esther », Ofen, 1837). Son descendant à la cinquième génération, le Dr Max Anton Löw, un converti au catholicisme romain, était l'avocat de l'antisémite [Deckert](/articles/5036-deckert-francis) (« Mittheilungen der Gesell. zur Abwehr des Antisemitismus », 1896, pp. 45, 48 ; 1897, pp. 190, 216 ; « Oest.
