Lévy, Armand

Graduate of the École normale, where he taught mathematics (1814-15), he stayed in England until 1828 then in Belgium, where he held a lecturer position at Liège University and was a member of the Brussels Academy of Sciences, before returning to France in 1830 as professor of mineralogy at Charlemagne College.

Mathématicien et minéralogiste français ; né à Paris en 1794 ; mort là le 26 juin 1841. Il était diplômé de l'École Normale, où il devint professeur de mathématiques (1814-15). Il se rendit en Angleterre, où il vécut jusqu'en 1828, puis en Belgique. Là il fut maître de conférences à l'Université de Liège, et devint membre de l'Académie des Sciences de Bruxelles. Revenu en France en 1830, il fut nommé professeur de minéralogie au Collège Charlemagne.

Lévy publia des mémoires dans la « Correspondance Mathématique » de Quételet (1828-30), dans les « Annals of Philosophy », et dans le « Philosophical Magazine », et fut l'auteur de : « De Différentes Propriétés des Surfaces de Second Ordre » ; « Sur une Nouvelle Manière de Mesurer la Pesanteur Spécifique des Corps » ; « Sur Quelques Propriétés des Systèmes de Forces ».
