Born in Marosvásárhely (Târgu Mureș) in 1929 in a Jewish family of Transylvania, he was deported in 1944 (his mother and sister perished at Auschwitz) and survived. Becoming a photojournalist, he devoted a major part of his work to photographing and documenting the ancient Jewish cemeteries and Jewish memory of Transylvania. He settled in Hungary in 1988 and died in Budapest in 2020.
