Born in Paris into a wealthy and assimilated Jewish family, educated at the lycée Louis-le-Grand and the Sorbonne, he is best known for « La Trahison des clercs » (1927), in which he denounces intellectuals who betray truth and justice in favor of political and racial passions. He was also an opponent of Bergsonism (Belphégor, 1918).
