Born in Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines, from an Alsatian family settled in Morocco (family enterprise founded in Tangier in 1888 by his grandfather Benjamin Braunschvig). Vice-president of the Alliance Israélite Universelle from 1946 to 1976, then president from 1976 to 1985. In charge of Moroccan affairs, he greatly expanded the Alliance's school network in Morocco (from 12,000 to 32,000 students between 1945 and 1955). Died in Jerusalem.
