Oncle de Salomon ibn Verga. Contraint de fuir Séville lors de l'installation de l'Inquisition, il se cacha à Lisbonne. Astronome, il inventa un instrument pour déterminer le méridien solaire (Lisbonne, v. 1457) et laissa des traités scientifiques (arithmétique « Keli ha-Ofeḳi », méthode de mesure des hauteurs, astronomie), conservés à la Bibliothèque nationale de France.
