Member of an ancient and illustrious Spanish family, student of Rabbenou Asher ben Yehiel (the Rosh) in Toledo. He commented on much of the Bible (Esther, Proverbs, Jeremiah), the Pirké Avot and a piyyut, translated parts of Maimonides' Guide for the Perplexed, and wrote around 1330–1350 a treatise on astronomy in Arabic, « Nour al-'Alam » (The Light of the World).
