Member of the Relief and Rescue Committee (Va'adat Ezra ve-Hatzala) of Budapest. In April 1944, he was entrusted by Adolf Eichmann with negotiating the « blood for goods » deal (Blut gegen Waren) supposed to exchange one million Jews for trucks and goods. His mission failed. With his wife Hansi Brand, he published an account of these events.
