SHABABO, JESHUA

Scribe égyptien et rabbin ; il vécut dans le dernier quart du dix-septième siècle. Ses maîtres étaient les rabbins Abraham ha-Levi du Caire et Joseph Nazir, qui devint par la suite son beau-père ([voir Joseph Nazir ben Ḥayyim Moses ha-Levi](/articles/8875-joseph-nazir-ben-hayyim-moses-ha-levi)). La relation entre maître et élève peut être déduite du fait qu'Abraham ha-Levi inclut quelques dissertations de son élève dans son ouvrage « Ginnat Weradim ». Les deux hommes différaient d'opinion, et l'élève répondit à son maître dans « Peraḥ Shushan » (Constantinople, 1732). En outre, il écrivit « Sha'are Orah », « Sha'are Torah », et un grand ouvrage en deux parties intitulé « Sha'are Yeshu'ah », contenant des responsa. Shababo fut pendant quelque temps un sofer, mais démissionna de cette charge pour des motifs religieux lorsqu'il fut nommé dayyan du Caire.
